I have been an artist all my life, working with watercolors, oils, photography, and jewelry.
I create images that articulate the precise and abstract qualities of the natural world. My life-long interest in natural science has evolved into an examination of common patterns within the microcosm and the macrocosm, and the realization that all things are interconnected. My works reflect situations and points of view that are unseen by the naked eye. I draw my ideas from my observations of nature, ancient symbols, meditation, microscope images of cells and particles, and telescope portraits of galaxies and nebulae. In my watercolors I incorporate pigments made from semi-precious stones, such as rhodonite, garnet, tiger's eye, hematite, amethyst, black tourmaline, turquoise, diopside and lapis lazuli.
My background in fine arts, art history and archeology deeply influences my jewelry designs. I find inspiration in natural forms, ancient adornments, mythology and astronomy. Working with metals and stones brings together the knowledge I have gathered over many years and allows me to create something unique, permanent and wearable. My jewelry has a graphic quality and often expresses archetypal symbolism. I explore the juxtaposition of edgy and dainty by combining gemstones, precious metals and patina to incorporate color and contrast into my work. Designs come to life spontaneously, much like my paintings. I work with natural stones, recycled metals and high quality beads. I find beauty in natural gemstones and their inclusions, and choose each one for its unique visual characteristics. With the use of traditional goldsmithing techniques, I create modern day talismans with the intention of making the wearer feel empowered and protected.
I hope you enjoy my work. I create each and every piece by hand in my studio.
